You are a bully!

-Sunena Tamrakar

It’s very easy blaming somebody but it’s never easy accepting our mistakes. Maybe that is a very common human behavior or maybe we are just not aware enough to realize our mistakes.

Each one of us is a bully and we have bullied many people either one way or the other. If you think you can’t relate to this then this is a perfect blog for you to realize some keen things about life.

Have you ever spoken rudely with someone?

Have you ever spread somebody’s rumor?

Have you ever excluded somebody from the group?

Have you ever name called somebody?

Have you ever hidden somebody’s belongings?

If the answer is yes to any of these then you are a bully.

When we talk about bullying the first thing to come to our mind is a one-sided mock fight between a strong and a weak one where the strong ones go all out and the weak ones stay quiet but this alone can’t describe bullying. There are many forms of bullying.

We might be familiar with bullying including spitting, kicking, throwing objects, hitting and other physical abuse but along with that bullying also includes name-calling, threatening, insulting, being rude to someone and using threatening gestures. These are the forms of direct bullying that most people are familiar with. Direct bullying simply sums up the doer harming the victim directly without hiding or involving a third party.

But there also exists indirect bullying. Indirect bullying includes getting others to assault, spreading rumors, stealing/hiding belongings, sending vicious notes or deliberately excluding people from a group or activity.

According to NVEEE indirect bullying includes the following :

  • Purposefully not allowing someone to sit at your lunch table, or participate in a group activity.
  • Mocking or making fun of someone because of their religious beliefs, culture, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, etc.
  • Gossiping about someone just for the sake of it; just to be mean.

Now there is no way you can deny you haven’t bullied somebody before. Direct bullying is something everybody is aware of but not indirect bullying. We have been indirectly bullying so many people our whole life without knowing and realizing while for us it may not be a big of a deal but for the ones getting bullied either directly or indirectly we can’t imagine what they must have gone through.

While we fight for bullying we are also the one bullying too so now since we all are aware about both direct and indirect bullying we can all work on ourselves and make this world a better place to live.
